Northeast of Springfield is Two Butte Creek and an open prairie where mule deer and whitetails can be found. Antelope can also be seen across the area.

Trophy class mule deer and whitetails are not frequently seen and access for deer can be difficult. Antelope access needs to be arranged before fall.

Open prairie and arroyos rise slowly to rolling hills with plateaus and small canyons. Two Buttes Creek is a major drainage that connects with many smaller creeks.

Two Buttes Reservoir, Baca County about 320 acres located off of US Highway 287 on County Road B.5. Provides cover for mule deer, antelope and scaled quail.

Major roads that lead to many county and secondary roads are US Highway 287, which travels north of Springfield, US Highway 160, which goes west of Springfield and Colorado Route 101 heading north out of Pritchett.

Shortgrass prairie of buffalo and blue grama, pinyon/juniper, sand sage, oakbrush, dryland farms and Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) lands are all part of the landscape.

Springfield and La Junta have hospital, gas, food and lodging. Gas and food is available during weekdays in Kim.
