Many desert bighorn sheep live in this unit. This unit includes many broad valleys, gentle sagebrush foothills and steep, rocky mountains in the Gillis Range and the Gabbs Valley Range Wilderness Study Area. A few mule deer and antelope also live here.

Deer numbers are low, and the antelope herd is marginal. Hunters have placed some antelope in B&C records

Walker Lake is on the western edge of this unit, which is mostly open to the public except for the Walker River Reservation that is controlled by the Walker River Paiute Tribe. The terrain includes many broad, wide open valleys, gentle sagebrush foothills and steep, rocky mountains in such ranges as the Gillis Range and the 89,600 acre Gabbs Valley Range Wilderness Study Area.

Access is not restricted in most of the area and there are plenty of public roads and four-wheel-drive trails.

Sagebrush from low to high elevations. Bitterbrush, pinyon pines, mahoganies and junipers at higher elevations, along with some natural spring sources and big game guzzlers. Some springs have been developed for cattle or feral horses.

Camping is allowed on public lands. Mina has a trailer park. Hawthorne is the best place to stay if you plan on getting a hotel. El Capitan is hunter friendly, while America’s Best Inns and Suites is also available.
