This long and narrow unit is bordered on the west by saltwater and dissected down the middle by I-5. There is very little public land within this GMU and what is available is largely divided and consisting of various state, county, reservation and wildlife areas. This unit has been heavily touched by the hand of man with major uses spread between urban sprawl, farming and rural residential properties. On average, deer success rates are low but the blacktail do very well in this high broken landscape where they have access to their favored thick cover. Elk are very nomadic in this GMU and can be here one day and gone the next.
Elk are around but few and far between while decent deer numbers are present but hard to hunt due to the thick vegetation.
This unit largely consists of rolling forested mountains with broad wide flat valleys draining to the coast. Along the I-5 corridor is all urban sprawl with just a tad of farm ground and few protected wild places. The larger eastern tracks have clear cuts in multiple stages of regrowth.
Limited public access with most hunting opportunities taking place on private lands.
Conifer forests across a wide range of growth age-class make up the bulk of the ground cover which is heavily clear cut and divided into small tracts. Farming is popular here with a wide variety of fruits, turf grass, chickens and dairy cattle being common. Due to urbanization, there is a wide range of non-native decorative trees, shrubs, and flowers found in the unit.
Lots of options for a comfortable bed and a shower, as well as staying closer to gas stations, restaurants, and a grocery store can be found throughout the unit.
