North of Mount Rainier National Park, this GMU is divided between Snoqualmie National Forest, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, timber companies, and a touch of residential along Rd 165 and the small town of Buckley. The national forest land is steep, rugged old growth forest that had a significant forest fire along the southeast border.
Downed logs and dead standing timber from a past fire continues to pose a safety hazard to hunters, so take caution.
A majority of this unit consists of very steep old growth conifer forests with many past clear cuts. It is dissected by the West Fork White, White, and Greenwater Rivers, most flowing north before heading west. The far eastern and southeastern border is roadless with Norse Peak at 6,781-ft. The western border has some urban sprawl, mainly in rural single-family residential properties.
There is decent access along Rd 410 which runs through the GMU and the national forest. There is a decent number of unimproved roads as well, but watch for possible road closures. There are large blocks of private with various public access opportunities.
Old conifer forests of ponderosa pine, douglas fir and grand fir dominate the GMU. In 2017, the Norse Peak Wildfire burned thousands of roadless acres in the east which will transition to tender grasses, forbs and buckbrush.
Primitive camping on National Forest land is allowed for the majority of the year, but various fire bans and forest road closures may happen, so double check any restrictions or permits necessary prior to your trip. For lodging, gas stations, restaurants, and a grocery store, your best options will be Buckley and Enumclaw.
