Wyoming deer area 127 is located to the north of Thermopolis. This deer area is located in some of the most scenic western country found anywhere. Hunters may be interested in soaking in the natural hot pools found in Thermopolis. This general tag allows hunters to pursue both mule deer and whitetails with quality potential for both species being excellent. Private land will often produce a higher quality experience, but access to private lands may be difficult to obtain. Whitetails will occupy the low river and creek bottom lands, while the mule deer range throughout the entire hunting area.

This area is extremely diverse in its geography. The terrain here transitions from low river bottom lands to high desert with rolling hills and huge expanses, to rough foothills backgrounded by peaks thousands of feet above the valley. The red clay dirt found in this area is unique and brightens the landscape tones, contrasted by the yellows, greens and browns of surrounding grassy hills full of sagebrush and rocks.

Access in this area consists of roads running through BLM lands, typically to service gas and oil facilities, pumps, and wells. There are numerous roads that hunters can use to access the available hunting acres, but it is recommended to carry maps and GPS to be sure of any private land road access and easements. Private roads do exist on public lands, hunters should do their part to be sure of where they are. BLM public ground makes up the majority of this area.

The ground cover here is composed of sagebrush, cactus, grassy hills, pine, juniper and irrigated crops. Large cottonwoods fill the creek and river bottoms while Russian Olives choke open pastures and creek bottoms.

This area provides opportunities for hunters looking for outfitted hunts on both public and private ground, but for those looking to hunt here on their own, Thermopolis has necessary services and will be the closest option for hunters. Camping, fuel, groceries, motels, medical and meat cutting can all be found in this small town. Local businesses are very hunter friendly.
