Hunters considering Area 165 - Yu Bench in Wyoming should be aware that while draw odds with 4.5 points are favorable, there is limited information and mixed experiences reported. One hunter who drew the tag found the experience underwhelming, having encountered a 170-type buck briefly but mostly seeing lesser quality bucks, suggesting that trophy potential may not be consistent. Timing of the hunt also seems to be a consideration, but there is no clear consensus on whether the first or last week of the season would be more productive. Hunters planning a trip should manage expectations around trophy quality and be prepared for a potentially challenging hunt.

This area is southeast of Cody, and is only limited quota with thousands of acres of BLM land open to the public. Both mule deer and whitetail can be found here.
Mature mule deer can be found here, but can be elusive. Whitetails can be concentrated near the Greybull River, but getting permission to hunt on private ranches can be hard here.
Portions of Meeteetse Rim, Tatman Mountain and parts of the Greybull River can be seen in this area. Miles of open sagebrush and grasslands dominate the remaining landscape.
County and secondary roads give good access to the area. A GPS can be good to use for navigating throughout the unit. Along the Greybull River private land it can be harder to get access to.
Most of the land here is covered in sagebrush, and the grasslands are made up of buffalo and blue grama. Ridges and hills typically have shrubs and juniper on their slopes with cottonwood and willows lining creek and river bottoms.
Hunters can camp on BLM land here. Cody is in the northwest corner of the unit and has a lot of options for lodging and food. A regional airport, hospital and gas stations can also be found in Cody.
