Wilderness
Under Wyoming law nonresidents are not permitted to hunt big game or trophy game in any federally designated wilderness areas without the presence of a licensed guide or resident companion. The resident companion must first get a free non-commercial guide license from a Game and Fish office. The law does not prohibit nonresidents from hiking, fishing or hunting game birds, small game, or coyotes in wilderness areas.
This area has limited vehicle access. Hunters can expect to spot and stalk, and walk drainages to hunt moose. Hunting with the use of horses can be helpful in this unit. It is necessary in about 80% of this unit for a nonresident to have a guide because it is in a designated wilderness area.
There is a variety of vegetation in this area where moose can be found. From ponds where moose browse for aquatic plants and graze on willows, to open territory. There are a lot of pine and aspen trees where moose take cover, along with serviceberry bushes that moose feed on.
Hunters can seek further accommodations or supplies in nearby towns of Jackson if necessary. Camping is permitted on most Forest Service land.
