Mule deer, whitetail deer and elk are hunted on this unit, which runs from Highway 20 to the Wyoming state line and from Tetonia to the Yellowstone Park boundary. Some tags are available over the counter while others must be obtained through the lottery draw.
Mild terrain in the southwest portion of the unit consisting of rolling hills and agricultural land dissected by shallow ravines and valleys. The north and east portions of the unit are moderate to very rugged country with deep canyons and dense forests.
Good access to national forest from maintained roads, continued travel by horseback and foot are the primary methods. Off road vehicle use is very restricted in this unit making the use of ATVs beneficial. Cave Falls Road, Ashton-Flag Ranch Road, Conant-Fall River Road and Coyote Meadows Road provide easy access to the national forest. Land outside the forest is almost entirely private.
Mostly agricultural crops and CRP (Conservation Reserve Program) land in the southwest portion of the unit with aspen stands along hillsides and drainages. Conifer forests can be found in the northeast and are comprised of lodgepole pines, douglas fir and the occasional aspen stand or grassy meadow.
Most hunters camp on national forest lands or at designated campgrounds either in a tent or RV. The Warm River and Cave Falls campgrounds are located just outside the unit boundaries, but camping is allowed in most areas of the national forest. Motels are available in St. Anthony, Ashton and Tetonia.
