This hunt district stretches between the community of Marion and the city of Libby in Northwest Montana. This unit is very scenic, rough and can provide some remote hunting areas. This area is well covered in logging roads and hunters can find unique access points into a lot of areas. Vegetation can be very thick at times but this area has good glassing opportunities compared to some of the surronding units.

Mild winters and above average food sources have been optimum for elk and deer populations to increase, with the best increases in the whitetail deer. Mule deer are the minority species harvested in this unit. Whitetails have been on an increase and appear to be the best opportunity for hunters.

This district consists of an equal mixture of timbered mountains, grassy meadows, creek and river bottoms. As you decrease in elevation expect the slope to increase along with an increase in vegetation density. Open timber ridge tops and logging roads will be your best navigation in the mid to upper elevations.

A large amount of public land with several logging roads and some trails that access the interiors of the unit. Most of this area can be day hunted using these roads and trails, but a spike camp may prove beneficial in some of the more remote areas. If choosing to hunt the lower elevations where private and public land intermix, a GPS with landownership overlay is highly recommended.

Douglas fir, Engelmann spruce, grand fir, western larch, lodgepole pine, aspen, cottonwood, ponderosa pine, cedar and many different species of brush. In lower elevations there will be heavy pockets of timber, but also some scattered grassy meadows.

This unit is just minutes from the town of Libby where lodging can be found. Some Forest Service rental cabins are located within the unit, but will need to be reserved as early as possible. The US Forest Service has established campsites throughout the district.
