This unit is found is the far west central portion of the state near the Wyoming and Montana state lines. There are miles of BLM and Walk-In access areas with some scattered state land across the unit. The terrain is mild with a countless number of creek bottoms separated by large tracts of CRP. Great antelope habitat is found here along with favorable hunting conditions.

Good numbers of antelope can be found here along with multiple options for hunting them on public lands. Terrain variation is great and spot and stalk hunting is excellent, even for archery hunters.

With barely over a thousand feet of elevation change in this large unit located on the west side of the state, the bulk of this unit consists of CRP which is broken up by countless small creek bottoms lined with vegetation and a mix of trees. Hunters will find favorable glassing conditions here but the many small terrain variations will also create good hiding spots for this unit's game.

At first glance this unit does not appear to have much public land opportunities, this being said there is actually an extensive amount of walk in access property scattered through the unit with multiple sections being as large as 4,000 plus acres, add this to the state and federal land that could be touching on one side or the other and you can start to see that there is plenty of room to move around when hunting this unit. There is limited to no drivable roads in the BLM land across this unit, so plan on putting some miles on your boots to really cover the available ground.

A mix of short and tall prairie grass for miles in all directions as well as countless species of wildflowers can be found in most areas of the unit that haven’t been turned for agricultural purposes which can be found primarily in the south central part of the unit. Very sparse timber which is primarily a mix of Cottonwood, American Elm, Green Ash, and Bur Oak can be found along the edges of the many creek bottoms.

Belle Fourche is a town of approximately 6,000 residents, and is considered the main hub for many miles in all directions. You will be able to find most anything you would need for last minute supplies to include sporting good supplies at BuckStop Sports. Outside of Belle Fourche there is very limited supplies and locations to plan your hunt out of other than remote camping.
