This smaller unit is found in the central portion of the state and features limited public hunting opportunities. Decent numbers of antelope can be found here but the sheer lack of public hunting opportunities. Most of the success will be found on private lands but there are also some walk-in areas that can be good to consider.
A hunter's biggest hurdle will be found in the lack of public access. Antelope numbers are smaller here but success is not unobtainable if you have access or can locate a herd on one of the small public access locations.
This area has a healthy mixture of terrain types. Most of the unit is fairly flat and dominated by agricultural areas and/or expansive prairie-type lands. There are many small drainages and creek bottoms with shrubbery and some timbers but most of this area is open and easy to glass.
Several main highways and Interstate 90 provide straightforward access to all locations within the unit. From these primary roads, many county roads crisis coss the unit and hunters will find little trouble in physically accessing areas.
A mix of short and tall prairie grass for miles in all directions as well as countless species of wildflowers can be found in most areas of the unit that haven’t been turned for agricultural purposes. Very sparse timber which is primarily a mix of Cottonwood, American Elm, Green Ash, and Bur Oak can be found along the riparian zone of the small creek beds scattered across the unit.
Located in the middle of the unit, Murdo is the only town in the unit where modern conveniences such as lodging, groceries, and more can be found. OUtside of Murdo very few options will be found and hunters will want to secure most gear needs before arriving in the unit.
