Located in the northwest corner of the state this unit is pretty far from everywhere. There is limited access to the unit but there are a couple of pieces of state land and walk-in ground that are just over 10,000 acres as well as some smaller pieces scattered in all directions across the unit. If you are looking to hunt this unit, be sure to have a solid plan in place to hunt one of these areas, or have some access to private ground.
With limited public access there are few hunters headed to this Unit without a plan around hunting some private property.
Overall this unit is relatively flat with some roll. There is very little agriculture except in the north center of the unit. There are a number of small creeks that cut their way through the unit but no major rivers. There are a number of buttes and bluffs that break up the topography, but none that cover much real estate to be a focal point when planning a hunt.
Highway 20 is the northern border of the unit and runs east and west. On the far side of the unit is Highway 73 that runs north and south but is not the eastern boundary although it's not too far from it. Highway 212 is the southern border and also runs east and west. There are a number of county roads that come off of these highways that will take you into all corners of the unit. Bixby Road heads south off of Highway 20.
A mix of short and tall prairie grass for miles in all directions as well as countless species of wildflowers can be found in most areas of the unit that haven’t been turned for agricultural purposes. Very sparse timber which is primarily a mix of Cottonwood, American Elm, Green Ash, and Bur Oak can be found along the riparian zones of the small creek beds scattered across the unit.
There are no established campgrounds in this unit, and as a general rule there are no amenities. Make sure you plan ahead as gas, groceries etc. will need to be picked up in town prior to arriving at this unit depending on which direction you are traveling from.
