Located in the south central part of the state with the northern border made up by the White River. The majority of this land in this unit is a mix between private land and Rosebud Reservation land. There is some walk-in access scattered across the unit, but not much.
With very limited public access there are few hunters headed to this unit without a plan around hunting some private property.
The most notable terrain feature in the unit is the White River which makes up the northern border. As you move south, the bulk of the unit is a mix of mostly raw prairie and some agricultural land spread across the unit.
State Highway 83 moves north to south in this unit and almost cuts it in half. Highway 44 runs east to west across the unit. These two highways make up the bulk of the access in this unit. They also allow access to the numerous county roads that will take you to the more remote parts of the unit. On the far east side of the unit, there is also Highway 53 that runs north off of Highway 44 and again allows easy access to the different county roads in the northeast corner of the unit.
You will find a mix of short and tall prairie grass throughout the unit as well as countless species of wildflowers in most areas of the unit that haven’t been turned for agricultural purposes. Very sparse timber which is primarily a mix of Cottonwood, American Elm, Green Ash, and Bur Oak can be found along the riparian zone of both the White River as well as other small creek beds scattered across the unit.
The town of White River, SD is located more or less in the center of the unit and is the only notable township in the unit. You will be able to find gas, groceries, as well as some locally owned lodging in this town.
