Southwest of Cedar City and northwest of St. George and bordering Nevada and Arizona, this unit has few sheep and the state issues few tags.

Though this is a big unit, only a small part of it holds desert bighorn sheep. Hunting here can be feast or famine. It's not unusual for a hunter to shoot the only ram he or she sees.

Sheep are found near the Arizona border. This part of the unit consists of some plateaus with rimrock edges and draining into deep canyons. This area consists of low desert landscape with little water. Most hunters use roads to drive within hiking distance of the canyons where sheep live. Many rams spend time in Utah and Arizona. Hunters should carry a GPS unit and know how to use it to avoid hunting illegally in Arizona.

A couple of roads give access to sheep terrain in the south. Hunters can use Old Highway 91 and the Mojave Desert/Joshua Tree Road to access the Utah/Arizona border. Hollow Wash Road from Bloomington Hills also leads into the area. Shivwits Indian Reservation northwest of St. George is closed to hunting, but sheep seldom travel that far north.

The high country is timbered with ponderosa pines and aspens. Middle-elevation land is mostly composed of canyonlands with grass meadows, sagebrush, bitterbrush, and scrub oak. Low terrain has pinyon/juniper woodlands, sagebrush, and oak brush. Pockets of water are scattered throughout the unit.

Hunters can find lodging, gasoline, and groceries in St. George. The only designated campground in the unit is Gunlock State Park. Camping is allowed on most public land.
